The Nursery Teacher will be working under the supervision of the shelter’s coordinator and according to the Child Protection Unit’s guides. She/He will be responsible for the provision of care to babies and infants in our shelter, partnering with our team to enhance the supporting environment at our shelter. We are looking for professionals who have previous experience working in shelters and could work in Athens, Greece, who are particularly passionate about assisting refugee children and who are up for rolling up their sleeves and wearing the many hats needed to support the smooth operation of The HOME Project shelters.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Help to create a fun environment and incorporate educational programs that assist in our children’s development
  • Create activities that are fun and educational for the children
  • Develop and maintain a constructive and ongoing rapport with children
  • Closely cooperates with other team members to ensure that the shelter fosters an environment that is inviting and nurturing for every child
  • Deliver reports on potential concerns about children
  • Manage day-to-day activities, including structured lessons, free play and rest time for children
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries when working with children and staff
  • Maintains confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism in role
  • Attends weekly staff meetings
  • Attends weekly staff supervisions
  • Attends monthly training sessions conducted by Child Protection Unit
  • Reports to the shelter Coordinator

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in similar roles
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language (for non-Greek speakers)
  • Caring and nurturing attitude towards children
  • Experience of working in a multicultural environment
