H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden’s foundation donates to The HOME Project via her partnership with Child10

H.M. Queen Silvia's foundation - Care About the Children has decided to support Child10's work to identify and support grassroots organizations that provide support and protection to children on the run and reduce the risk of various forms of exploitation around the Mediterranean. The support will strengthen organizations in Greece, Turkey, and Spain who are dedicated to protecting children on the run from trafficking and exploitation.

Tens of thousands of children who have been forced to flee towards Europe in recent years have been or are at high risk of being trafficked and exploited. In Greece, more than 3,000 unaccompanied refugee children are outside of a system of protection with no access to basic care, services, nor information on their rights. They are spread all over Greece, living in appalling conditions, on the streets, in detention centers, and camps exposed to all sorts of dangers from child abuse to organ trafficking and sexual exploitation.

The HOME Project has received a donation from H.M. Queen Silvia’s Foundation – Care about the Children to support its work in providing a holistic network of child protection services for the 220 unaccompanied refugee children hosted in the organization’s eleven shelters in Athens. The HOME Project expresses its deepest gratitude to Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden for her trust and support and acknowledges the efforts done by Child10 for channeling the assistance and for building bridges within the global child protection sphere.

“Children on the run are in terrible danger, including in refugee camps and along the migration routes. Children are at great risk of disappearing and being subjected to human trafficking and exploitation. It is crucial that organizations that protect and provide support to children have better conditions for running their business, and that is why I am very pleased that my foundation is working with Child10 in their important work.” says H.M. Queen Silvia.

“For many children who are on the run, local grassroots organizations are the only ones who can provide them with necessary protection against traffickers. This is why we are so grateful to have Queen Silvia's foundation as Child10’s main partner. The Queen, with her long and strong commitment to children who are subjected to human trafficking and exploitation, is a global role model for child rights defenders. Through the support of Queen Silva's foundation, we will be able to strengthen the protection of thousands of children who are at risk of being trafficked and exploited”, says Jacob Flärdh, Secretary General of Child10.

“We are grateful and deeply honored to H.M. Queen Silvia for her invaluable support to The HOME Project enabling us to continue providing high quality services of individual care and support for each and every child that we care for, while enhancing community building on a local, national and international level. It is an honor to work together with H.M. Queen Silvia’s Foundation and Child10 for a world in which all children have a right to their childhood and an opportunity to build a future for themselves”, says Sofia Kouvelaki, CEO The HOME Project.
